About Rent a Chef – a fateful day in Maastricht

It was a gloomy September day in 2002, and a young student was working as a waiter at an exclusive restaurant in Maastricht. What seemed like an ordinary day would turn out to be a decisive moment in his life. When the head chef suddenly failed to show up and the restaurant manager desperately searched for someone with cooking skills, the student stepped forward. Although his experience mainly consisted of cooking gourmet dinners for his fellow students, he took on the challenge with passion and enthusiasm. His performance impressed so much that he was asked to continue running the kitchen.

One evening after service a guest approached with a simple question that would change everything: “Can you hire the chef for a private dinner?” That enquiry was the starting point of Gunnar Frykfors’s journey from business graduate to chef and entrepreneur. In 2004 he founded Rent a Chef in Stockholm, and the company has since grown into a leading player in cooking events and catering.

With food and passion at its heart, Rent a Chef now has representatives across Sweden and parts of Europe. Our cooking studios in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö are meeting places for culinary experiences where we arrange everything from cooking classes and product presentations to tastings and exclusive dinners.
